Truth

It's a fact: the world likes to tell us many lies. In fact, it tells us that there is no absolute truth. I think it's beautiful that scripture addresses those lies and gives us truth even though it was written thousands of years ago. But sometimes our culture is so "in your face" and "all the time" that it's so easy to begin to believe them. It's easy to fall into the trap of comparison...especially for women.  We believe that we need to look a certain way, or have a certain thing, and then we will be considered valuable. We begin to believe what society tells us about ourselves and we let society define who we are. This should not be so common...we have truth given to us from our Creator.

If you find yourself believing the lie that you need to look a certain way to be considered worthy...this truth is found in 1 Samuel 16:7
If you find yourself spending a lot of time comparing yourself to others...if you spend most of your time trying to improve the way you look and are never satisfied...or if you continually buy things to make you happy while still needing more...1 Peter 3:3-4
If you find yourself anxious or jealous of what other people have or wishing that you could dress like the people around you, Jesus's perspective in Matthew 6:28 reveals truth...
If you find yourself thinking that you are not worthy of love and that other people are more valuable than you, believe this truth in Song of Solomon 4. How great is God's love!
If I could go back and tell my teenage self something of value, it would be to be encouraged that no matter what anyone says to you or about you, or what you think of yourself, Jesus is the one who defines who you really are. You just have to believe it.
