Logan spent this past Monday night in the hospital and we are feeling so blessed to be home with our sweet boy who is recovering quickly.
It was an enlightening experience to be on the patient side of a hospital visit. I think it's easy as a health care provider to see the hospital as a normal place...a place where things happen a certain way and that's just how it works. Even with my knowledge of pediatric Emergency Rooms and admissions and discharges, I'd say that our experience has enlightened me and hopefully softened me to understand a glimpse of what some of my patients' families have experienced.
So here is Logan at home, after the whole ordeal. Trying to get me to give him fruit and Honey Nut Cheerios instead of vegetables.
His smile was extra precious after not seeing it for a few days.
For the most part, we had a pretty easy hospital stay. We ended up in the ER late on Monday night for racemic epi breathing treatments and steroids. We were admitted to a room for further monitoring in case more treatments were needed. And we did our best to sleep between 1am (when we got to our room) and 7am (when the first med student came in to go over Logan's medical history).
Child life kept trying to bring Logan toys but seriously...he just threw them around the room and yelled a lot. The interventions he received on Monday night made for a much happier boy the next morning and staying in a hospital room all day was not in his plan. He even danced around for the doctors during their morning rounds and did his best to wave at each one of them. We were promptly discharged by the attending who was laughing at Logan's performance. This was how he felt about the crib...I think he felt like it was a cage. So he slept on the pull-out couch with me. He was also not a fan of the pulse ox on his toe or the q4h vitals checks (especially the blood pressure).
Tim and Cassie brought Logan an awesome balloon when we got home on Tuesday. Oh, and we all slept for what felt like ages. I think Logan took a 6 hour nap and then went to bed again at his normal bedtime. Sleep is definitely good medicine.
We were so thankful for the quality of care we received at Dell Children's Hospital here in Austin. I know it wasn't a big, scary hospital visit, but it made us very thankful for so many things including our health, our hospital system and the providers who took care of our sweet boy.
The next day (Wednesday), Logan and I decided to hit up Trader Joe's for the first time. It seemed like a good field trip to get us out of the house, but not overdo it. We are both in LOVE!
